BookTube Videos and My Blog Posts – An Unusual Pair

I’ve been putting off writing this post for almost 2 months now out of sheer laziness. However, these past two days I’ve been trying to catch up on my BookTube subscriptions and it has reminded my why I love BookTube as a platform so much. I seem to engage with it in bursts currently, which is something I need to work on and make it part of my routine. Earlier this year, I hit upon the idea to pair my posts here on Unputdownable Books with similar videos from my favourite BookTubers so I can give them a shoutout in what I hope is a different way. July Wrap-Up + August Reading Month (2019)

Hello, lovely readers! I hope you’re having a great weekend! July was a pretty hard month for me. I was struggling to get out of my hiatus mode and go back to my old schedule. The end of the month was less than ideal and everything that happened nearly broke me. But let’s not dwell on the negatives and move on to better news. I had my best reading month of 2019 in July and I’m looking forward to getting back to my blogging groove in August. So let’s jump into the wrap-up post, shall we?

Reading 101: How to Fit Reading Into Your Daily Schedule

Off Tangent Thoughts (OTT) is a bi-monthly meme that has a basic list-based format wherein bloggers express their points in the form of a short or long list with the points under the list being merely a couple lines or even complete paragraphs. Prompts will be up on every 1st and 3rd Saturday based on which everyone can write their own posts. For prompts that will be released on the 1st Saturday, bloggers can write and publish their posts over the next two weeks, that is, until the 3rd Saturday from when posting for a fresh prompt will begin and continue up until the 1st Saturday of the next month and so on. On the rare occasions when we have a 5th Saturday, there will be an open prompt where everyone can generate a topic of their own or catch up on previous OTT prompts they may have missed. Everyone is encouraged to interpret the prompt however they like and be innovative with their posts. The topic for May 18th, 2019 is: Thoughts You Have When Someone Interrupts Your Reading.

I have been a reader since I was a smol child, so I have a lot of experience in dealing with situations where my reading gets interrupted. After becoming an adult with a job and responsibilities, every minute of reading time that I can get out of my schedule is precious to me and I guard it like a mother dragon guards her eggs. Today, I want to make a quick list of what goes on in my mind when my reading gets interrupted and will then move on to give some practical tips on how to make time for reading despite having a packed schedule.

12 Book Recommendations for Hodderscape Reading Challenge 2019

I’m always on the lookout for reading challenges and I found this one quite by accident when compiling my post about the reading challenges to watch out for in 2019. Run by the sci-fi and fantasy imprint of Hodder and Stoughton, this has some wonderful prompts that will appeal to both readers looking to start reading more speculative fiction and veterans of the genre like me. I wanted to share my TBR for this reading challenge today that double up as book recommendations because I’ve heard excellent things about all of the books in the below list.

April Wrap-Up + May Reading Month (2019)

Happy Star Wars Day and May, fellow nerds! It’s finally become slightly cooler thanks to a few timely storms and things are looking hopeful now that spring is everywhere. April was an amazing month in terms of reading because of the OWLs readathon. I also read some cool blog posts, successfully evaded Endgame and Game of Thrones spoilers and made new bookish friends. Top 10 Memorable Book Quotes

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for April 30th, 2019 is: Inspirational/Thought-Provoking Quotes from Books. For this topic, I’m making a list of quotes from books written by authors I’ve not read before that make me want to pick them up immediately.

The bookish community has undergone several changes in the past few years and one of the most important steps in the right direction is the push to publish more diverse books. Readers have been clamouring for more stories that represent the world as it is today with all its diverse glory. However, there is still a lot of work to be done here, which is what articles like the one on The Guardian that states only 1% of UK’s children’s books have BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) main characters show. With social media, it has become easier for publishers to gauge what their audience wants and yet we continue to see little to no improvement in the state of things. While there are multiple reasons why the status quo isn’t changing at the rate it’s supposed to, today I want to bring up one of the issues that is rarely addressed when it comes to diverse books and publishing.

2019 Readathons That Should Be on Your Radar

Looking to add some fun into your reading routine? Readathons are just the thing for you! They usually take place online on one or across several social media platforms so you can connect with fellow readers and share your progress. They can be as short as 24-hour ones to elaborate month-long readathons.
