July Wrap-Up + August Reading Month (2019)

Hello, lovely readers! I hope you’re having a great weekend! July was a pretty hard month for me. I was struggling to get out of my hiatus mode and go back to my old schedule. The end of the month was less than ideal and everything that happened nearly broke me. But let’s not dwell on the negatives and move on to better news. I had my best reading month of 2019 in July and I’m looking forward to getting back to my blogging groove in August. So let’s jump into the wrap-up post, shall we?

5 Books to Read on World Environment Day

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for June 4th, 2019 is: Books From My Favorite Genre. For this prompt, I decided to go with SFF books that discuss climate change or dystopian futures as June 5th is World Enviornment Day. Being eco-friendly and combating climate change is something I feel deeply about, so I hope these books inspire some positive changes in your life as well.

Greatest Hits of Sci-fi and Fantasy TBR (2009-2018)

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for May 28th, 2019 is: Favourite Books Released In the Last Ten Years. It’s very difficult for me to narrow down my favourites to just one per year, so I decided to instead share my TBR of books that have been shortlisted for the Nebula awards from 2009-2018.

Top 5 Books That Are Worth Reading Again

I was a huge re-reader until a couple of years ago when I started my book blog. The pressure of keeping up with review copies and the hyped books has kept me away from picking up my old favourites again. In the recent past, old series are being renewed again or sequels are coming out years later which have necessitated re-reads from publishers themselves. The book community has also embraced re-reading as a way of defeating the dreaded reading slump or as pick-me-ups on bad days. That is why today I feel comfortable sharing a list of books from my past which I want to read once more.

Top 10 Diverse YA Sci-Fi Reading List

I decided to skip the Top Ten Tuesday prompt today because I wasn’t feeling it. While thinking of another idea for a blog post, I was inclined towards a recommendations post when it hit me that as someone who claims to love sci-fi, I don’t read a lot of it. This is especially true for the young adult bracket and even more so for books by diverse authors. In this post, I’m going to be sharing the top ten YA sci-fi books by POC authors (most are #OwnVoices) that are on my TBR.

The Best Diverse Middle Grade Fantasy Reading List

Middle grade fantasy is what got me into reading and I find that no matter how old I become, I still have a soft spot for this genre. When I was a little girl, the narratives had very little diversity but the landscape has changed since then. However, I’ve been reading significantly lesser middle grade books these days and leaning more towards young adult and adult stories. I want to consciously add more diverse MG books to my TBR, so I did some research and came up with a list of 10 books that were highly praised and recommended. I’m sharing that with you in today’s post in the hopes that you can find an interesting book or two to pick up for yourself, your children if you are a parent or your class in case you’re an educator.

February Wrap-Up + March Reading Month (2019)

Happy March to all my lovely readers! It’s already reached summer temperatures here in my city and I find myself excited about the change. I seem to have found a renewed energy in pursuing the goals I’d set for myself at the beginning of the year. I also started re-reading an old inspirational book that was a favourite of mine as a teenager, which has helped me cope with all the things life has thrown at me in February. I hope I can keep this momentum going throughout the year! Now, let’s talk about the month that just went by and my plans for the upcoming one.
