Top 10 Anticipated Contemporary Books of 2019

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for January 29th, 2019 is: The Ten Most Recent Additions to My To-Read List.

I don’t read a lot of contemporary and don’t really keep track of release dates to even have an anticipated list, so I’ve been building one based on what my book blogger friends have on their 2019 radar. Here are the 10 latest books I added and who suggested them to me –

1. 96 Words for Love by Rachel Roy and Ava Dash

Suggested by: Sahitya @ My World of Books

Release date: January 15th

Why I added it: A contemporary retelling of one of the lesser-known stories of Indian mythology sounds very intriguing

2. Bloom by Kevin Panetta and Savanna Ganucheau

Suggested by: Kate @ Your Tita Kate

Release date: February 12th

Why I added it: I’ve never tried out graphic novels before and Yuri on Icing sounds perfect!

3. Small Town Hearts by Lillie Vale

Suggested by: Simant @ Flipping Through the Pages

Release date: March 19th

Why I added it: The cover is too gorgeous to pass up and the author is Indian

4. The Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston

Suggested by: Charvi @ Not Just Fiction

Release date: April 2

Why I added it: The most anticipated sequel of Geekerella, a book which we both adored, so this was an automatic add as soon as I checked out the release date

5. If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka

Suggested by: Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books

Release date: April 23rd

Why I added it: I was interested in Always Never Yours, which Marie screamed about in 2018, so I added this one too for good measure

6. The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

Suggested by: Vicky @ Vicky Who Reads

Release date: May 7th

Why I added it: I want to binge-read this after The Kiss Quotient

7. Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Suggested by: Shruti @ This is Lit

Release date: May 14th

Why I added it: First Sahitya raved about it and then Shruti did too, so I couldn’t resist!

8. Front Desk by Kelly Yang

Suggested by: Destiny @ Howling Libraries

Release date: May 29th

Why I added it: The cover looks so very cute and the synopsis sold me

Suggested by: Shealea @ Shut Up, Shealea

Why I added it: It’s middle-grade and will help me understand the modern landscape of the Philippines better

10. A Match Made in Mehendi by Nandini Bajpai

Suggested by: Fanna @ Fannatality

Release date: September 10th

Why I added it: The author shares my first name!

  3. I can’t wait to read 96 Words for Love, I’m so excited that my library has it. There’s a challenge that I’m doing in April where the goal is to read contemporary books so this book will be perfect.

It feels so good when someone anticipates a book because you suggested it! I mark this is as an accomplishment and thank you so much for adding A Match in Mehandi. I hope we both love it when we read it 😀
