Even though the new year has already rolled around, I can’t quite accept 2019 as “this year”. The week has been a normal enough one, only much colder in the mornings, and I have largely been failing at all my new year goals. Hopefully, some serious time to myself over the weekend should get me back to shape! The first step in looking ahead is to learn from the past, so here I am to talk about all things 2018. My blogger friends Sahitya @ My World of Books and Simant @ Flipping Through the Pages brought my attention to this end-of-year survey that is hosted annually by Jamie @ The Perpetual Page Turner. This is a long and comprehensive one, but I promise there is light at the end of the tunnel! Let me get straight to the questions now.

GIVEAWAY ANNOUNCEMENT!
I started this little book blog in January 2017 as a way to share my thoughts on books with the world. I discovered the magic of BookTube in December 2016 and felt really inspired to express my passion for books. I began on Tumblr because I already had a writing blog on WordPress that was my primary focus and I wanted something low-maintenance. However, as life unfolded, I found that I felt more drawn towards Unputdownable Books and made the tough decision to close my old blog in September 2017 so I could focus my energies solely on the book blog. Now that I’m looking back to my journey, I can’t help but feel like I made the best decision at the right time. I’ve made so many amazing friends through blogging, I’m creating content I care deeply about and I’m so thankful for the small community of my dedicated readers who continue to encourage and inspire me every day. As a small token of thanks to all of you, I’m giving away 1 HARDCOVER COPY of The Surface Breaks by Loiuse O’Neill. Use the Rafflecopter link below to enter. The giveaway is open until January 31st, 2019, and open internationally. May the odds ever be in your favour!

What was your 2018 like and what do you hope to accomplish in 2019? If you have a 2018 wrap-up post, link it below so I can check it out! Which book are you most looking forward to reading in 2019? Let’s discuss in the comments section below.
I totally agree, The Wrath and the Dawn is a lovely book. I didn’t do a year in review, but here are my goals for 2019 and my top ten from 2018. Happy reading!

I was trying to write different books for each of the questions and it was so hard! 😭 But it makes it all worth it when I see comments like this. Thanks a lot, Charvi! ♥️ Have you read that one? I believe you finished Wild Embers by her.

Wonderful wrap up Dini… and so many books that I don’t know, or haven’t been much on my radar… I definitely have to keep a look out for them….
And I promise, I’ll read Aru Shah soon 😁😁😁

My intention was to help people discover some under-the-radar books and those that I don’t keep shouting about all the time. 😂 So your comment means so much to me! ♥️ Yay, you have to keep me posted on your progress once you pick up Aru Shah! The next book is out this May and I cannot wait! 😍

Loved the wrap-up Nandini. Your reading year was great. You read so many good books. At least you chose a different book for each question 😂 Now if I see mine, I feel I have repeated my choices.
I really hope 2019 is even better fir you and you get to achieve all your goals ☺️ And thanks for the giveaway 😃

I had the hardest time choosing different books. 😭 I had to easily dig hard to find variation. I did this for hours and finally managed to get acceptable answers for all the questions. It was a good reading year, so that really helped! 😅 I’m sure your post is fabulous nonetheless. ♥️
I hope you have a wonderful 2019 too, what with all the good news on the way! 😉

Obsidio and And Then There Were None were my two favorite reads of this year! Reading two books that good in the same year makes for a pretty great reading year!

I fully agree! Glad we have those in common. ♥️

Oh I loved It Only Happens in the Movies as well, so happy to see it here! 🙂 And I also love The Wrath and The Dawn, such a good, beautifully written story, too ❤
Congratulations on two years of blogging, that's amazing and I wish you all the best for the upcoming year and may you continue blogging for a long, long time ❤

Yay for the common opinions! They really are two very good books. I still need to wrap up that series though and check out more by Sara Bernard (esp A Quiet Kind of Thunder). Thanks a lot, Marie! ♥️ You’re the sweetest. ☺️

The Belles was one book that I heard a lot about before it was published, then never heard about it afterwards…I guess a lot of people felt the same way you did about it! Maybe next year I will be answering The Queen’s Thief for my ‘best series started in 2019’ – it’s on my 2019 priority list 🙂 I love that Novik is your fave new author from 2018! A Conjuring of Light was also my longest book in 2017. This survey was my last post in 2019: http://fallingletters.ca/2018/12/2018-end-of-year-book-survey.html Congratulations on your two year anniversary and thanks for the giveaway!!

Thanks a lot, Jenna! ♥️ The Queen’s Thief is on my priority list too. I haven’t picked up the second book yet though. Maybe we can try a buddy read? 😅 Although I don’t think I’d do as badly as with The Silmarillion as these books are quite fast-paced. Ah, so nice to note all the commonalities! 😊 Will check out your post soon, Jenna!

Great wrap up! I absolutely loved And then there were none too – such a shocking ending, as you put it. I recently got The Nowhere Girls and I cannot wait to read it because everyone seems to love it 😀

And Then There Were None is one of the top mysteries I’ve ever read. I don’t think I could’ve predicted the ‘how’ in a million years. Christie’s books are amazing that way! 😍 I can guarantee you’ll enjoy The Nowhere Girls. It is intersectional feminist fiction at its finest. ♥️

500 followers on the blog is definitely an achievement and I read Aru Shah and enjoyed it quiet a bit. But possibly a little less than I expected

Thank you so much, Sushma! ♥️ I’m sorry if I over-hyped it but I’m glad we have a book that represents our mythology the same way there is Percy Jackson for the other kids, so I feel very passionate about it. 😍 I hope you liked it enough to continue with the series.
