Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the hostβs. The topic for December 18th, 2018 is: Winter TBR. I love making TBRs but I rarely ever stick to them. Looking back at my older TBR posts, I found that my Summer TBR had a 70% success rate and my Fall TBR fared even worse with only a 30% hit rate. I want to be smarter about this season’s TBR so I actually pick books I’m very excited about and will positively read soon. Feel free to check back in spring and yell at me if I don’t have at least a 70% with this one!
The Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden
The third and final instalment is coming out on January 8th and I want to binge all the books this winter because they just seem so perfect! I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews for this one, so I have very high expectations from it.
All the Wandering Light by Heather Fawcett
I can’t believe I haven’t already read it because it’s my most anticipated sequel of the year! I intend to remedy the situation as soon as possible though because this is another book that needs to be read burrowed under warm blankets.
Strange the Dreamer duology by Laini Taylor
The costliest and most precious editions I’ve bought, I abandoned the first book two months ago and haven’t picked it up since. The audiobook wasn’t working for me and I decided to read the physical copies, so I hope that putting them on this list will spur me into action.
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi
If I had to pick only one book to read in 2019, this would be the one. I’ve been eagerly anticipating its release since it was announced and I’m all kinds of excited to pre-order it as a new year gift to myself! (I’m currently on a book buying ban.)
God’s Forsaken by David Brevik
I’ve mentioned it in a couple of my monthly TBRs now, but in case you haven’t read those, this is a review copy I desperately need to finish before the end of the year. Something about the writing style just wasn’t working for me and I set it aside but hopefully I can power through it soon.
Time Crawlers by Varun Sayal
Another review copy that has spilled over from my November TBR and needs to be read as soon as possible. I have a huge list of review copies that are threatening to drown me and I really need to make a solid dent into that list! Since this is a short story collection, I’m hoping it’ll go by quickly.
The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu
I discovered an amazing podcast called Books and Boba that promotes Asian literature and even has a monthly book club! I’m going to be reading along from January 2019 and they have picked out this book for their first read next year. I’m not very good at sticking to book club picks, but I’m very interested in this one as it sounds right up my alley.
What is on your TBR for the winter season? Are you planning to get a lot of reading done over the holidays? Do you like to read Christmassy books around this time of year? Let me know in the comments section below.
I hope you read all of them Nandini πππ

Nandini, I would never yell at you about your reading choices. π
Winter is the perfect time of year for the Winternight Trilogy! I loved the first two books and am really excited about Winter of the Witch. The only “word of caution” I’d offer is that the first book (The Bear and the Nightingale) might seem a bit slow at times plot-wise, but Arden remedies that problem in the second book.
As for me, two new books I’m looking forward to next season are King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo and The Wolf in the Whale by Jordanna Max Brodsky. I’d also like to catch up on some of the 2017 books I won’t get to this year (For a Muse of Fire by Heidi Heilig, Isle of Blood and Stone by Makiia Lucier) and some of the older books that have been on my TBR for a while (The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys).

Thanks for the tip about The Bear and the Nightingale! I’ll keep that in mind. π
I have never heard of The Wolf in the Whale! What’s it about? The rest of your list looks superb! π I have to confess I haven’t yet read The Handmaid’s Tale either. π I hope you enjoy Between Shades of Gray! I’ve been meaning to read that but just haven’t got the perfect mood for it somehow. π

Based on what I’ve heard / read about it, The Wolf in the Whale is a historical fantasy about a female Inuit shaman, her fight to save her family, and her people’s first interactions with the Vikings. The blurb goes into a little more detail, so here’s the Goodreads link if you’re interested:

And yeah, I have a feeling Between Shades of Gray will be a tough book to read. (Then again, most books set during WWII are tough reads.) But a movie based on the book is coming out in Janaury, so next month / the winter will be as good a time as any to read it.

Thanks, Sara! π Oh, I didn’t know when the Between Shades of Gray movie would be released. I need to read that one soon too then! π

Ah, Strange the Dreamer seems to be a popular choice! That’s great. π The Winter of the Witch is perhaps the most anticipated winter release. Same here! π

We can totally do a buddy read, if you’re willing! I’m super slow on buddy reads too and I think that fits both of us well. π
I can’t wait for The Gilded Wolves to be out and shower it with as much love as you’re doing now. π

The Winternight trilogy all at once is a good choice! I read both right around when they were released but I had a hard time remembering what happened in the first book by the time I read the second book ^^;

Thanks for the tip, Jenna! π I’m planning to binge some more complete series or wait for them to complete before diving in. I read so many books these days that I have a hard time keeping them straight. π Hope the third one is just as amazing as I’ve heard the first two are. π
