Top Ten Tuesday: Short Story Anthologies on My TBR

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for July 17th, 2018 is: Favorite Novellas/Short Stories. I haven’t read a lot of short stories or novellas, so I wanted to change the topic to suit my reading habits. Recently, I have been curious about short story anthologies as they are great to sample the writing of different authors to see if their other stories would be a good fit for me. If you’ve read my April-May wrap-up post, I had featured an anthology in the June Anticipated Releases section, which is what got me interested in these in the first place. I haven’t read any that I remember, so these are the ones on my TBR. I’ll talk about three of them that are on my priority list and give a quick mention of the others.

1. A Thousand Beginnings and Endings

This has so many amazing authors in it that I ordered a copy without any care for the price! It’s basically an #ownvoices anthology featuring retellings of Asian myths. As you might know by now, I’m a huge advocate for Asian-inspired and #ownvoices Asian stories, so this is right on top of my list. Also, the cover art for this is too gorgeous to behold!

 

2. The Radical Element

This is more on the historical side of things and focuses on the stories of women who were rebellious during their times but are hailed as revolutionaries now. I feel like it has a similar vibe to it as Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, so I’m definitely looking forward to reading this. I’ve been reading more feminist YA lately but they have been contemporary fiction, so I really want to branch out and read up about the past as well.

3. Meet Cute

Contemporary fiction anthologies are gaining steam recently and this got a decent amount of hype around the time it released. I’ve been reading a lot of heavy and emotional books lately, so I think this will provide the perfect break for me with all its fluffy stories. It does have good diverse representation with some stories being #ownvoices, which is always nice to have!

This list by Book Riot has 4 more, which are also on my TBR but I’m not sure when I’ll get to them. They are all 2018 releases and they sound absolutely fabulous, so I hope you will be encouraged to add them to your TBRs as well!
