Top Ten Tuesday: Books on My Summer TBR (2018)

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. How it works is that each Tuesday the host assigns a topic and then posts their top ten list that fits the topic. Every blogger can create their own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well and link to the host’s. The topic for March 20th, 2018 is: Books on My Spring TBR. It’s already summer here in my country, I’m going to be talking about the books I plan to read in the months of April and May. June signals the start of monsoon, so I’m not sure if I can get to all of these in time, but let’s be honest, we bookworms all have ridiculous TBRs!

1. Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

I’m not ready for this series to end but I’m also very determined to cross it off my TBR. I got the audiobook for it, which is how I read the first two books. If you’re planning to read it, I can’t stress enough the importance of getting the audiobooks. They will blow your mind, I promise. 2. Everless by Sara Holland

I subscribed to a bookish box solely because this was the book of the month in February. While I was really satisfied with the other stuff that came in the box, I can’t wait to devour this book! However, my expectations are sky-high and I hope the book delivers.

3. Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

This was my most recent impulse buy because the hardcover was at a great price! I haven’t read any of Bardugo’s books yet and I’m planning to start with this one. I loved the movie and this is said to be perfect for Percy Jackson fans, so I’m hoping I’ll really enjoy it.

4. The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

Speaking of Bardugo, I feel like I’m the last person on Earth to get on the Six of Crows bandwagon. But I’m being strict with myself and holding off on reading Six of Crows because I like reading in chronological order. I have the audiobooks for the entire trilogy, which I’ve heard are pretty good, so I think I can get through this series quickly and move on to her more popular duology set in the Grishaverse.

5. Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi

I’m going to pre-order the book the second it is possible to do so on Amazon. I trust Roshani to do a very good job making Hindu mythology accessible to the middle grade audience with Rick Riordan’s new imprint. I doubt this will be anything less than a 4.5-5 star read for me.

6. Smoke Thieves by Sally Green

It’s been a while since I reviewed ARCs on this blog, which is a result of me not requesting many. However, I recently realised that I do have a Net Galley account I can make use of and got approved for two ARCs. The premise of this one intrigued me and I think the physical ARC (or a sampler?) was recently included in one of the popular bookish boxes, so it has been getting some hype as well. I’m always a little apprehensive going into ARCs, so I hope the story is as epic as the synopsis makes it out to be.

7. Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

It seems Twitter can’t shut up about Love, Simon, so I figured I have to read this before going to see the movie. This book has bagged the honour of being on the top of my TBR and I know I can fly through it quickly. My only fear is that all the hype may ruin the experience for me, so I’m mentally preparing myself to throw away my expectations before starting this book.

8. A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking

I can’t believe I haven’t gotten to this book yet. I got the audiobook a few weeks before his demise and the news has increased my determination to read it as soon as possible. I think it’ll be the next audiobook I pick up after Obsidio.

9. The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton

I got the audiobook for this at a discounted price and everyone was raving about it when I was on my buying spree. It has such a unique and cool premise that I would have picked it up even if the hype around it wasn’t so intense. I’m also happy to be supporting the author because she’s such an icon in the book community, who champions the cause for diverse books. However, it got pushed down my TBR a little bit because of the ‘bury your gays’ trope controversy.

10. The Burning Maze by Rick Riordan

I don’t think this list would be complete without me mentioning a Rick Riordan book. It comes out in the beginning of May, so I will have plenty of time to complete it before summer draws to a close in my country. Needless to say, this will be another pre-order.
