My Ambitious #SummerBiBib & #BTAT17 TBR

I had to abandon my usual plans for my blog posts because this week I’m taking part in two of the most popular read-a-thons in existence – the Biannual Bibliothon and BookTube-A-Thon. If you haven’t heard about them (and I’d be surprised if that’s the case), I’ll leave the links to the introductory videos below so you can check them out. It’s never too late to hop on board! Trying to find books that fit into the reading challenges of both the read-a-thons took me a while, but I managed to figure something out. It’s highly ambitious since my work+commute eats up 13 hours of my time. I’m trying to squeeze in some reading during the commute and during my lunch hour in office. But I’m pretty sure I’ll be doing most of my reading on the weekends. Without further ado, let me tell you what books I plan on reading.

Book #1 – The Perks of Being a Wallflower

For: Read a book that has been or still is banned + Book to movie adaptation – read & watch (BiBib)  and Read a hyped book (BTAT).

I’ve only heard great things about this book, especially from BookTuber Jeesethereader. My movie buff friends like to quote dialogues from the movie in conversations. Not having read the book or watched the movie, I feel like I’m missing something. I discovered this morning that this was also a banned/challenged YA book. This seems like the best time to catch up and since it’s a small book, it’s the perfect addition to my TBR.

Book #2 – The City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments #4)

For: Throwback challenge [A book over 300 pages] (BiBib) and Read a book with a person on the cover (BTAT)

I’m sort of cheating for this book as I’ve already started reading it, but I’ll be reading a major chunk of it during the read-a-thons. Since the spirit of these challenges is to help people read more and tackle their TBR, I’m just going to count this one. Since I do have more than 300 pages left in this book, it seems like an acceptable workaround.

Book #3 – The Magic

For: Read a book you’ve seen somewhere other than BookTube (BiBib)

This is another book I’m currently reading, but I’ll re-read it from the beginning for this challenge. I was introduced to The Secret by my family and I enjoyed it so much that I got The Power and The Magic when they came out. I purchased it when I was still at school at the annual Scholastic book fair. I’ve not heard any BookTuber talk about this book on their channel, so I added it to my TBR.

Book #4 – Flame in the Mist

For: Group book challenge (BiBib)

I haven’t read Ahdieh’s works as yet, but from the interviews I’ve seen on BookTube, she seems like a super cool person and many people have been raving about this book for quite some time now. I’m very excited to pick it up and read along with so many others as a part of the Bibliothon!

Book #5 – Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index

For: Group book pick + Read a book you bought because of the cover (BTAT)

I saw the cover on Goodreads first as one of my friends had added it to her TBR and fell in love immediately. I added it to my shelf as well, without bothering to check the summary. When Ariel announced that this would be the group book for BookTube-A-Thon, it gave me an excuse to read it. I only got an idea of what this book was about when I saw the video by Ariel. I’m going to count that as a cover buy.

Book #6 – Quidditch Through the Ages

For: Finish a book in one day + Finish a book completely outdoors (BTAT)

Of course I’d be smart and pick up a super-short book for these challenges. I recently gifted myself the entire Hogwarts Library collection in hardcover for my birthday and I’ve been looking for a suitable time to read them in physical format ever since. It fulfils two challenges at once, so I had to include this in my TBR!

Book #7 – Every Heart a Doorway

For: Read from the host’s favourite genre [Emma – Diverse Books] + LGBTQIA+ (BiBib) and Read about a character that is very different from you (BTAT)

A lot of Booktubers have been mentioning this book recently. I know that it features an ace character, so this completes three challenges for me. Since I identify as a heterosexual female, the main character is definitely someone quite different from me. I haven’t read any book with an asexual MC yet, so I’ve been meaning to pick this up since forever. It also helps that it is only about 200 pages.

The last challenge for BookTube-A-Thon is to read seven books and, as you can see, my TBR has that number exactly. I’m not sure how many books I can get to this week, but I’m going to try my best to make sure I complete them all. I also plan to take part in all of the blogging challenges, so I’ll be posting every day this week here (at least I hope to).
